The Eastern Michigan University Choral Program plans to brighten and celebrate the holiday season with two Candlelight Concerts, to be held at EMU Saturday, Dec. 14 and in Detroit’s Orchestra Hall on Sunday, Dec. 15. The first annual Candlelight Concerts will involve two performances, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14, in Pease Auditorium and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 in in Detroit’s Orchestra Hall. There will be a little something for everyone at the EMU candlelight concert. Traditional holiday carols like Ding Dong Merrily on High, In the Bleak Midwinter, and Silent Night, will be blended with new compositions from Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, F. Melius Christiansen, Hyo-won Woo, and Shawn Kirchner. Each performance will include a string quartet, dancers and poetry selections intertwined with lighting and music to create an intimate atmosphere for the holiday season. The EMU Choir recently performed at Carnegie Hall, twice in two years with international recording artist Andrea Bocelli; at the regional American Choral Directors Association conference in Chicago and at the Michigan Music Conference.
