The year is 1929. The place, Berlin’s bawdy nightspot the Kit Kat Klub. Outside the club, Germany succumbs to the power of the emerging Third Reich; inside, the Emcee intoxicates audiences with promises that troubles will be forgotten at the Cabaret. Caught up in this world-at-odds is a host of memorable characters: the naïve writer, Cliff; the seductive singer, Sally Bowles; the boarding house head mistress, Fraulein Schneider; and the Jewish fruit seller, Herr Schultz. With a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff, this 1998 Revival version of the Tony Award- winning musical provides a scorching satiric indictment of frivolous complacency in the face of impending doom.
