Eastern Michigan University Theatre is pleased to present the Kander and Ebb classic Cabaret, with performances on October 18-20 and 24-27, 2019. All performances will take place in the Quirk Theatre, located in the Quirk Dramatic Arts Building at the intersection of East Circle Drive and Best Hall/Ann Street on EMU’s Ypsilanti Campus. This production is recommended for audiences ages 16+. The year is 1929. The place, Berlin’s bawdy nightspot the Kit Kat Klub. Outside the club, Germany succumbs to the power of the emerging Third Reich; inside, the Emcee intoxicates audiences with promises that troubles will be forgotten at the Cabaret. Caught up in this world-at-odds is a host of memorable characters: the naïve writer, Cliff; the seductive singer, Sally Bowles; the boarding house head mistress, Fraulein Schneider; and the Jewish fruit seller, Herr Schultz. With a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff, this 1998 Revival version of the Tony Award- winning musical provides a scorching satiric indictment of frivolous complacency in the face of impending doom. Ticket prices for Cabaret are $18 regular admission, $14 for Seniors (60+), and $12 for students & MAINSTAGE patrons. Tickets are available in person at the Convocation Center, Student Center ticket office or the Quirk Box Office, by phone at 734.487.2282, and online at www.emutix.com. A workshop focusing on how the transition to digital has made rapid, data-driven decision making a critical component in marketing, business, and government will be held at Eastern Michigan University on Friday, Nov. 15. The Digital Marketing workshop, based on the theme, “The Speed of Change,” will feature Garlin Gilchrist, Lieutenant Governor of Michigan, as the opening keynote speaker. Lt. Gov. Gilchrist served as a social media manager for the Obama campaign and Director of National Campaigns for MoveOn.org before returning to Detroit as its first-ever Director of Innovation & Emerging Technology. He will share his vision for using public data and technology to address the pressing concerns of our state, in a talk entitled “The Best Digital Isn’t Digital.” Speakers from Google, LawnGuru, Hyperion Coffee, Dynamo Metrics, and many more will provide actionable insights for harnessing “The Speed of Change” in a business or organization. Jenn Hayman, Director of Marketing for Zingerman's, will close the day with a panel on "The Marriage of Data, Branding, and Marketing". You can sign up for the workshop at the registration web page. There is an early registration date of Oct 31. The early rate of $50 buys breakfast and lunch as well as all the day's content. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 8 a.m. The workshop is hosted by the EMU Center for Digital Engagement and its director, professor Bud Gibson. Gibson led the establishment of the center at Eastern Michigan in 2015. With the generous support of Ann Arbor SPARK and the College of Business, the CDE currently sponsors the Digital Marketing Workshop and a monthly breakfast series.
