The Michigan Student Power Network is planning a direct action agaist Austerity politics in our state. We believe that fighting austerity begins with repealing it's greatest weapon: The Emergency Financial Manager. We are demanding that the legislature pass, and the governor sign, HB 5260, a proposed repeal of the current EFM law. This page will be used to build statewide support for the action, and provide a rapid info platform to spread news on the day of the action. As with many direct actions, to be as impactful as possible the Power Network has decided to keep the actual precise nature of the action private. However it will be a non-violent action, that will look to put economic pressure on decision makers in the state legislature and governor's office. If you'd like to participate, please email us at We'll be reaching out to folks who follow this event with roles and ways to plug in as we get closer to the event! Our state government is not acting in our interests, but rather those of corporate power. Our government and its corporate masters have been attacking the working and middle classes for over a decade through actions such as emergency manager implementation, union busting, cuts in education and social spending, and massive tax breaks for the wealthy. Traditional attempts to end attacks on Michigan people such as rallies, protests, and voting have failed to bring about the change we need. It is time for people to come together to show our government that if Michigan doesn't work the people, then Michigan will not work at all.
