Mother’s Day stake out to stop mega dump of poison into Detroit water Detroit area moms concerned about poison, radioactive frack waste being dumped into the water system will mount a 12-hour Mother’s Day protest in front of the corporation that wants a 10 fold increase in the amount of waste it dumps. The protest, organized by Moms Against Poisoning Detroit and the Coalition to Oppose the Expansion of US Ecology, will take place from 6 am to 6 pm, Sunday, in front of US Ecology on Georgia Street on Detroit’s Eastside. The group will hold a press conference at 9:00 a.m. The firm US Ecology collects waste from the process known as fracking, the hydraulic fracturing of rocks deep in the ground to extract oil and natural gas. The corporation dumps the waste, which is radioactive and contains heavy metals and other toxins, into the sewer system. The company is seeking a permit from Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to dump 10 times the amount of frack waste.
