Join Oday Salim of the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center and Elin Betanzo of Safe Water Engineering, for a community presentation on lead in water. So much is happening with respect to the threat posed by lead in drinking water. Four years later, the people of Flint still do not have the clean and affordable water they deserve, and yet the State of Michigan decided to cut off bottled water there. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality may have a revised lead and copper rule this year. In Beverly Hills, Romulus, and other Michigan communities, water systems are dealing with exceedances of the lead action level. Residents are frustrated, nervous, and have questions about how to protect their communities and their families. With this presentation, we want to explain how lead in drinking water is regulated, how communities can learn more about the risk of lead in their water, and what communities and individuals can do to protect their health. Most importantly, we want to dialog with the audience about the kinds of lead in water issues people are dealing with.
