Michigan Coalition for Human Rights (MCHR) Annual Meeting will include annual report and board elections, followed by panel of organizers from the Poor People's Campaign to talk about lessons learned and the future of mass movements. Annual meeting at 7:00; Program at 7:30 pm. Panelists: Rev. Ed Rowe, activist pastor; Crystal Baker, student, Youth Leader; Yexenia Vanegas, teacher and organizer, PPC, emphasis on theomusicology and movement arts. What were the strengths and weaknesses of the Poor People's Campaign? What was gained and learned? How did the PPC attract youth? Grassroots people? People of faith? What is the future of this movement and other mass movements? What strategies are most effective in combating poverty and other major issues? Light refreshments. Because some recently elected officials deny the seriousness of climate change, Catholics for the Common Good has invited Mr. Oday Salim of the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center, to speak on environmental problems worldwide with an emphasis on climate change. Because our religious leader Pope Francis has sent us an important encyclical on the environment, "Laudato Si" (On Care for our Common Home), we have invited Bishop Thomas Gumbleton to speak to us on the importance of this encyclical for a world in peril.
