@Detroit Department of Elections
The Sherry Gay-Dagnogo for State Rep - Dist 8 campaign of 2012 was my first run to serve in Michigan's legislature. The goal was to connect with everyday citizens to inspire them to join a "Movement" and greater civic engagement that would ensure access to quality education for all children, training, and jobs. I enjoyed hearing the concerns of my neighbors, seniors, students, parents that just wanted a better Detroit, from Rosedale Park Historic District to Brightmoor Alliance. With your support I was able to place garner 2nd place with 3,646 votes, historical endorsements from labor, political action committees, pastors and so many more. But the greatest accomplishment by far was leading by example for my students that we stand up for what we believe in, we don't faint in times of adversity, and even if we don't get what we want round one, we must continue to serve! In praying about my decision to run for 2014 and taking a look on at data from 2012, I ran across this Huffington Post article which summarizes how I felt about running then and it's no different now. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sherry-gaydagnogo/michigan-primary-2012_b_1749244.html Make no mistake, running for office is lots of fun; however, it takes laser light focus, dedication, commitment and fortitude that cannot be accomplished in isolation of great support from people like you. As I finalize this exploratory phase, I pray that you will join me on this journey for justice in "More Than a Campaign; A Movement 2014, because there's no way that I can do it without you!
