The NPVIC is an interim step endorsed by the League of Women Voters, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the Electoral College. Come learn more about why the LWV has proposed eliminating the Electoral College since 1970, and how you can help get MI join 12 others states that have already enacted the NPVIC into law.

Gray Panthers of Metro Detroit is pleased to invite you to hear Sharin Davenport, a long-time activist in the Transgender Equality Movement and the Green Party's 2018 candidate for Lt. Governor, provide a presentation "LGBTQ Rights: No Plan B". Her talk features an update on progress being made in Michigan for LGBTQ rights. Early in January, Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued a Declaration that would make discrimination illegal toward LGBTQ people through state government and its contractors. Ms. Davenport will share her views on federal and state legislation and will take a critical look at the judicial system.

The Greater Royal Oak Democratic Club hosts guest speaker Denzel McCampbell, newly-appointed communications director for Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. Mr. McCampbell is a community organizer and social justice activist who was named one of Detroit's Angelic Troublemakers by Colorlines. Mr. McCampbell previously worked with Engage Michigan and Black Youth Project 100 and was active in Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ advocacy. Please note that we have moved our regular meeting date back one week to avoid a conflict with the MDP state convention on February 2nd.
