A forum for all judicial candidates in competitive races on the Detroit ballot will be held. 38 judicial candidates for seats on the Third Judicial Circuit Court (Wayne County) and 36th District Court (Detroit) have been invited to participate. Judges make decisions with lasting social impact. One Third Judicial Circuit judge ruled in 2012 to revive the old emergency financial manager law (PA 72) when PA 4 was suspended by petition, despite a state law that bars such revival. This kept emergency managers in place for eight months until Rick Snyder could get a new EM law in place. Another judge turned over our Detroit Public Library to the DPS "emergency" manager based on manufactured "facts" and contrary to the state law that established the DPL over a century ago. Part of the turn from Lansing dictation over Detroit requires more diligence over all candidates for office, including those who are the arbiters of the law. Sponsored by We Care About Van Dyke/Seven Mile, a neighborhood association, with cosponsorship from AARP Chapter 2168 in order to create more voter awareness of who the incumbents and challengers are and reduce the insularity between voters and the courts established to serve them. Community Groups who wish to cosponsor this forum (which only requires spreading awareness of the forum among its members) should send a message to that effect to this email address from the appropriate officer(s).
